Heavy Traffic Expected during Summer Holidays in Shirakawa-go

Heavy traffic is expected around Shirakawa-go during the Japanese School Summer holidays (6th August – 16th August), especially around Obon season (11th August – 16th August).

According to Japan Road Traffic Information Center (JARTIC), the vehicles are estimated to queue maximum 2km from the Shirakawa-go IC to the public car park.

As parking and traffic delays are inevitable, private cars travelling as well as public transport should expect long delays (approx. 40 mins) especially during the day (11am-3pm).

Please note private cars travelling are advised to take exit at Shokawa IC to R156 North to Shirakawa-go instead of taking exit at Shirakawa-go IC. Onsite parking for approximately 900 cars and 40 buses is available. Search for the address, 2495-3 Ogimachi, Shirakawamura, Gifu or Tel:05769-6-3111 to set your GPS to direct you to the public car park in Shirakawa-go. Please refer to the map link below.
